Candescent

Made for the 2025 IDGA Clark January Game Jam (Winter 2025) - a 48-hour jam based on the prompt “Meltdown.”  Winner of the "Out Of The Box" award.

Candescent is a top-down tile-based puzzle game where you play as Lacan, a sentient candle attempting to navigate a dark manor in search of the elusive “Storage Closet” where your brethren reside. However, your soul—your radiance, is slowly melting down the waxy coil that facilitates your impetus to achieve fellowship and belonging. To subsist in the face of certain liquefaction, you must assimilate with the bodies of those unfortunate enough to have perished during their pilgrimage, or otherwise endure eternity as a messy splotch on the ground—unable to feel the warmth of what once drove you forward.
